Is Duncan's Toy Chest a Real Place? New York Filming Location for 'Home Alone 2' Revealed

The film is the third-highest-grossing film released in 1992 behind The Bodyguard and Aladdin. In the United States and Canada, it grossed more than The Bodyguard and ranked second. Thanks to a new package celebrating the 25th anniversary of the classic Christmas movie, the hotel is inviting guests to “Live Like Kevin” to make that dream a reality—without having to go into credit card debt, of course. Since the filming of Home Alone 2, the ownership of the Plaza has changed a handful of times. What was the main reception in the movie, is no longer accessible to the public. The Plaza acts as part hotel and part luxy private residence, and reception in the movie has now become exclusive to the private residence quarters.
Peter reveals that he doesn't have his wallet, which contains a family photo and loads of cash, checks, and credit cards and remembers that Kevin was looking for batteries and has his wallet and travel bag. The Miami police states that Kevin can still be tracked down if he tried using one of the credit cards and Kate replies that she does not think Kevin knows how to use a credit card. Other filming locations include the World Trade Center, the New York Subway and Central park, while in Chicago, scenes were shot in the Hilton Hotel and at O'Hare International Airport. After receiving some words of wisdom from the woman, Kevin is inspired to make up for his past mistakes by thwarting Marv and Harry’s plan to rob the toy store.

Kevin watches and strategically plays scenes from "Angels With Even Filthier Souls" at the Plaza. When Kevin goes to Duncan's for the first time, he walks by a man lifting his daughter to look at a toy display. Though he's Macaulay's brother in real life, he played Kevin's cousin, Fuller, in the films. It was created specifically as a prop for the film by Tiger Electronics, but according to Vanity Fair, the company was allowed to sell a real version once it came out. After fleeing the Plaza, Kevin seeks solace in Central Park and befriends the Pigeon Lady.
Meanwhile, Kevin goes to his uncle's townhouse, only to find it vacant and undergoing renovations. In Central Park, Kevin encounters and eventually befriends the pigeon lady, who takes him to Carnegie Hall. She explains how her life collapsed when her lover left her; Kevin encourages her to trust people again.

They climb down the rope, but Kevin, having soaked the rope with kerosene, lights it on fire, causing them to fall and get covered in varnish. This is the first Home Alone movie where the child is not at his actual house, before Home Alone 4. The scene where Marv is hit with the last three bricks is cut, showing only the scene where Marv is hit with the first brick. In addition, the scene where Marv gets stapled, removes the staple from his nose, and the tool chest scene are also cut. Harry tries getting into the home via the fire escape, but falls after leaping on a ladder made slippery with Monster Sap soap.
At the airport, Kevin looks out at Long Island City's Pepsi-Cola sign and the East River skyline, and the screen flashes to and from various cityscape shots. We get a sense of the enormity of the place and the tiny-ness of this child. At first, Kevin says nervously, "Oh no, my family's in Florida and I'm in New York." Then he smiles.
After considering her advice that he perform a good deed to make up for his misdeeds, and recalling Mr. Duncan's intent to donate to the hospital, he decides to prevent Harry and Marv from robbing the store. After the police instructs them to find an available flight to New York, Kate instructs the family to pack up and becomes worried that Kevin is now on the run after fleeing the hotel out of fear when the staff questioned him about the card. Peter then implies that Kevin presumably took refuge at Rob and Georgette's house and is cared by a housesitter, but Kate thinks they are in Paris and their New York home is undergoing renovations. That's not to say you couldn't visit NYC and be amazed inside a mega toy store. Formerly on Fifth Avenue, the store provided the setting for the famous Tom Hanks piano scene in the movie Big. In an attempt to prevent Marv and Rob from robbing the toy store, Kevin lures the two criminals to one of Home Alone 2’s final filming locations—his Uncle’s brownstone.

The next morning, the family oversleeps and must rush to the airport. Kevin is with them, but he becomes separated from them while carrying Peter's bag and accidentally boards a flight to New York City. Upon arrival, he decides to tour the city, but becomes frightened by a homeless woman tending to pigeons in Central Park. He uses Peter's credit card to check in at the Plaza Hotel, not knowing that the Wet Bandits have also reached the city after escaping from prison.
Located in Chinatown, Quong Yuen Shing & Co. originally opened in the late 19th century and sold various traditional goods like herbs and silks. Unfortunately, the store faced some financial difficulties following 9/11 and was forced to close. Naturally, the first thing that Kevin does is go on a sightseeing tour and hit up all the big New York hotspots. In the sightseeing montage, Kevin passes by Empire Diner, where he waves to a Santa on stilts. This is perhaps the most famous diner in the world, let alone New York City. Well known for its Art Moderne exterior, Empire Diner was constructed in 1946 and has since become a staple in movies and TV shows that take place in New York.

After losing sight of his family and boarding the wrong flight, Kevin gets introduced to Home Alone 2 filming locations in NYC via LaGuardia Airport—kicking off the rest of the movie and story.
While packing up to leave the hotel and take an available flight to Miami, Kevin fends off the hotel staff by playing Angels with Even Filthier Souls, making them think an armed guest has opened fire in the hotel. Kevin makes a 911 call from an Upper West Side phone booth and tells the dispatcher that the thieves who robbed Duncan's Toy Chest will be in the park at 95th Street. "Look for fireworks. They've got a gun." Then he slips on ice, and the dastardly duo walks him into the park. Ultimately, the Pigeon Lady throws feed onto the very sticky Sticky Bandits, swarms of pigeons peck away, and Kevin is able to set off fireworks to alert the police to their presence.
